Teacher Training Pathway (TTP)

Train to Teach Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

The TTP has offered me one of the most powerful learning experiences of a lifetime. Savour, digest and assimilate each step of the process as it offers a multitude of golden nuggets that will develop a skilful, resilient and flexible teaching style. As a developmental process, I believe the TTP has supported me to show up in the world with less fear. (quote from a TTP trainee)

The Teacher Training Pathway (TTP) is a flexible and progressive training route that will provide you with a certification of competency from Bangor University to teach Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

After successful application to register on the TTP, you will receive mentoring sessions for practical support and guidance throughout your journey. Following initial training, you will begin to teach mindfulness under the guidance of a recommended mindfulness-based supervisor. As you progress, you will build a comprehensive portfolio of training events, teaching experience and personal reflection, alongside deepening your personal mindfulness practice. When both you and your supervisor agree that you are ready, you will be invited to apply for the Mindfulness Teachers Professional Pathway (MTPP) module, which includes submitting a recording of your teaching for assessment. After successful completion, you will then receive your Certification of Competency.

All training events that form the pathway can also be attended as stand-alone Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) events, although some courses have specific eligibility criteria. Training completed prior to registration on the Pathway can contribute to your portfolio retrospectively.

Outline of the Teacher Training Pathway

Your Teacher Training Pathway portfolio is built over time by attending a series of training events and retreats and by keeping written reflections about your experiences as you begin to teach with supervision. Once complete you can submit your portfolio for certification as a CMRP Trained Teacher. You will then be eligible to register to have videos of your teaching assessed and become certified as a Competency-assessed Teacher in MBCT or MBSR from Bangor University – the highest standard of a certification as a mindfulness-based teacher available. If you choose to exit the Pathway before this point, you may be able to do so with certification as a Practising Teacher which enables you to begin teaching in line with Good Practice Guidelines.

To find out more about the TTP, please visit the TTP Outline page. We also highly recommend that you read the TTP Handbook, which provides even greater detail.

Pre-requisites for enrolling on the TTP:

  • Completion of MBCT/MBSR course via eight weekly classes
  • Developing a personal mindfulness practice of at least a 6-12 month period, post eight-week course
