Deepening and Extending the Foundations of Mindfulness

An online retreat on the “Seven Factors of Awakening”.

An online retreat taught over five days for mindfulness-based teachers or those training to teach with previous retreat experience. The theme of this retreat will be to explore how we can cultivate the beneficial qualities of mindfulness, inquiry, energy, joy, calm, focus and equanimity, and how we can nurture the conditions in our lives for these qualities to sustain. These qualities are expressed in the early Buddhist tradition as the “Seven Factors of Awakening” and form a key part in the traditional instructions on the practice of mindfulness. We will also relate these qualities to more contemporary frameworks and consider how they can resource us both personally and in the particular contributions that we can make to the wellbeing of our society and our world in these challenging times.


What’s involved?

Online retreat provides a wonderful opportunity to practice in a supported and sustained way within community whilst taking practice into the heart of one’s home environment. This retreat will include periods of instruction and teaching, guided and self-guided meditations, and some inquiry within the main group and occasionally in smaller groups. We will also use regular gentle mindful movement (qi gong) to prevent Zoom fatigue and to understand how body, heart and mind can support one another in the cultivation of the qualities we are exploring. No particular level of health or fitness is required for this.


Who is the retreat for?

The retreat is suitable for the following people:

  • those who have taken an eight-week mindfulness course and wish to deepen their learning
  • those who are training to teach mindfulness-based courses
  • teachers of mindfulness-based courses

Requirements to attend:

Completion of an eight-week course and attendance at a minimum of a day of silent practice.


Timings:

Please join in time to begin at 5pm on the first day. The retreat will end on 20th October at 4.30pm.


What to bring/wear:

Please wear comfortable clothing with layers and have equipment (e.g. mat, cushion, blanket) to hand to support your practice space at home.


Location:

This will be an online event – a Zoom link will be sent prior to the start date.


Our rates:

Full Rate of Online Retreat £350

Employer’s Rate for Online Retreat £400

Employer’s rate – Recognising the large administrative overhead of dealing with employers, we will be adding a £50 surcharge if the employer is paying directly; where possible we would advise applicants to pay themselves and reclaim on expenses to avoid the charge. We will be applying this to all our offerings with effect from September 2020.  


The Application and Payment Process:

Our application and payment process involves the following steps:

  1. We receive your application form and assess it to ensure that this retreat is suitable for you. We endeavour to make assessments within a week but if the retreat leader is on annual leave or on retreat then this can take a little longer.
  2. Upon offering you a place, we will invoice you for the full amount. 
  3. Your place is fully confirmed once we receive your payment.
  4. We will email you the joining instructions in advance of the course.
